Bacon Wrapped Lil' Smokies

I don't throw very many parties, but I absolutely love party food! So once or twice a month I like to have "appetizer night." This is where we skip dinner and  have a bunch of (about three) appetizers instead. The kids think it's fun and I get my party food fix. It's a win win deal!

I made a tray of Bacon Wrapped Lil' Smokies this last time, and was reminded of just how much I love them! They're so easy to make. Relatively inexpensive. And completely scrumptious! Seriously...what's not to love!

I know this is a dish that has been around for years and years; I contemplated even adding it to my blog. Pretty much the only thing I do different than any one else, is I like to give mine a quick dusting of black pepper before I pop them in the oven. I like a little peppery bite with mine. Especially if I'm not in a mustard dipping mood.

I have been told that you can keep them warm in your slow cooker. I have never had the need. Every time I serve these, they vanish in minutes! Enjoy!

Ingredients:
1 Lb bacon, cut into thirds
1 package cocktail wieners
3/4 cup brown sugar
freshly cracked black pepper (optional)
deli mustard and toothpicks for serving

Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. (This will save you the clean up later.) Wrap each cocktail wiener in a piece of sliced bacon. Lay seam side down on baking sheet. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Sprinkle with some freshly cracked black pepper if you like. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until sugar has melted and bacon is crisp. Serve with toothpicks and deli mustard.
